For those of you looking for a new room design brief, we have a challenge for you… Can you design a luxury room (any type of room!) in a teeny tiny space? We’re looking for an inspiring design that works in a space 3m x 3m, which conveys luxury, and the best of quirky, cool British homes. The design should give the feeling of a fabulous – but real – home.
The walls are just 1.5 m high, so overhead lighting could be tricky…and the space is open on two sides. You can use any furniture and decor items you like to create a glamorous, welcoming space. This brief comes from One Fine Stay, who offer an alternative to hotel rooms (check out their website for some amazingly inspiring real home pictures here)
Modern minimalist bedroom design 3×3 ideas
A really good way to do this is to download a house planning tool (or many are online these days) and map it out with windows and robes and such, THEN measure that against an existing bedroom, IE, compare to what you have now in a second bedroom and even if you don’t have a bed in there, map out the space needed for one, then the space you will have around it.
If you stuck a double in the corner, you would have ~90cm between the end of the bed and the wall, and 1.6m between the side of the bed and the wall. So, for a double, 90cm is too short to have the wardrobe at that end, so it would need to have the wardrobe to the side where 1.6m is fine.
Honestly if the BIR’s are not in that 2.8m then they sound fine to me, especially if you don’t plan on putting doubles in there, in that case, you have 1.9m to the side, which could easily fit a desk.
Honestly what you’re thinking is common “1.6m isn’t much” but that’s a 5’3″ person laying straight across that space.
Small Bedroom Design Ideas And Inspiration
If you have a desk built in as part of the built in robes then they are fine.
You also get those bunk beds with a desk underneath.
I have a room 2.850 x 3,510 INCLUDING the built in cupboards. The cupboards are next to the doorway. We have a double bed and bedside cabinets and is fine. In our case is only a spare bedroom.
Unbelievably Inspiring Small Bedroom Design Ideas
Both my kids rooms are roughly that size (excluding built in wardrobes)
They are fine. The kids actually don’t spend a lot of time in there.
No, it wouldn’t fit a double bed or larger. I have trundle beds in both rooms, as there are ceiling fans so I was concerned about clearance distance.
The bunks with desks underneath are a good option. Also, one of the rooms has a built in desk as part of the wardrobe. I am planning to get the other wardrobe modified later. You can get a desk set up made inside part of the wardrobe as well, so when you open the doors there is a table top and shelves inside.
Bureau type desks are also small and compact.
My kids have no problem with their rooms.
